9 special touches to pimp up your spare room like Meghan Markle
Move over Meghan Markle! The mattress specialists at WinstonsBeds have looked at the special touches we can make to transform the spare room into a guest haven.
Bathroom basket
Take a leaf out of Meghan’s book, but instead of finding time to make homemade bath salts, consider a basket filled with fluffy towels, sweet smelling bath oils, body and hand lotions.
You could also fill it with essentials such as hand soap, toothpaste and spare tooth brushes.

Sleep aids
Ensure your guests get a full night’s sleep with a stylish eye mask to block out any light.
You could also add a pillow mist or sleep spray with essential oils such as lavender or chamomile.
Drink station
Give your guests the hotel experience by creating a mini drink station.
This will mean they can enjoy a morning tea and coffee or herbal tea before bed, hotel style.
You could put a coffee machine in their room or a nice range of teas and coffees with a kettle and stylish mugs to match the décor.
Sweet smells
Add elegance to your guest bedroom with reed diffusers and candles.
The right scent will evoke a luxurious vibe within the room and leave guests feeling impressed.

Hanging space
Guests will feel more at home if they have space to unpack properly and hang up their clothes.
Take any of your own clothing that you store in the spare room out, and hang up co-ordinating hangers to an empty wardrobe or clothes rail.
Keeping warm and cooling down
Leave out extra blankets or quilts for guests in case their room gets chilly at night.
In the summer months, you could place a fan in the room for them to use if they need to so they can remain cool.
Reading material
Add a few books to the room so guests can read before going to sleep if they like to.
You could include a mixture of coffee table books and popular novels to choose from.
If your guests are more likely to enjoy a magazine, you could add some up to date editions to the room instead.
Lighting
Consider the light in your guest room and add lamps for a layered lighting approach.
Ensuring you have a lamp for reading and good lighting round a mirror is a good starting point to create ambience.

Declutter
Possibly the most important consideration is to avoid your guest room being an overflow storage area. Make sure it is cleared of clutter before your guests arrive. It’s a great opportunity to get rid of items that you no longer need or use, rather than just boxing it up and moving it elsewhere in the house.
