Stylish bedroom furniture that stands the test of time
Google searches for ‘stylish bedroom furniture’ are up a whopping 2,650%, according to online retailer Swoon. But what does ‘stylish’ even mean? While homes and interiors fans love to be abreast of the latest trends, ‘style’ implies a more enduring quality.
That doesn’t mean you can’t have the best of both worlds. Key timeless pieces will anchor your bedroom decor scheme – a beautiful bedframe, for example – while seasonal trends are best embraced through soft furnishings and decorative items that can easily be switched up.
So what are the stylish pieces that jive with today’s interior trends? Here’s what the experts at Swoon have observed…
Warm walnut
Swoon reports that Google searches for walnut are up 350%, eschewing the trends in recent years for minimalism and lighter woods. The rich and warm tones of walnut make it a strong and durable material and tap into the growing trend for biophilic design.
‘To incorporate this style into your boudoir, select a stylish walnut-toned wooden bed,’ says a spokesperson for Swoon. ‘With a sophisticated headboard, select matching bedside tables, a modern dressing table, and some savvy storage for a contemporary take on Scandi stylings. To keep things fresh for the sunnier season, opt for a fresh and airy colour palette elsewhere in the room – think Santorini white, earthy greens, and soft terracotta.’
The chic bedroom chair
Bedroom chairs are the statement piece of the season. Swoon reports that Google searches for the bedroom chair are up 250% and are expected to surge in the warmer months. ‘A statement seat can elevate your bedroom from ordinary to opulent,’ says a Swoon spokesperson.
Popular styles include sumptuous velvet armchairs, cosy loveseats, boucle finishes, rattan pieces and mid-century modern-style wooden chairs. But Swoon suggests ‘keeping it cool for the summer by opting for a linen material in a soft stone tone’.

A timeless headboard
A quick and easy way to transform your bedroom with statement stylish bedroom furniture, is a statement headboard, and Ercol has some absolute classics. Dating back to 1920, Ercol was started in High Wycombe by Italian Lucian R Ercolani and rose to be one of the world’s leading furniture designers, famed for his steam-bending wood technique.
The Teramo kingsize bed (shown below, from £1, 500) has shaped slats and a smooth top rail and takes it design reference from the classic chairs that Ercol is famed for. Keep your scheme co-ordinated with a matching Teramo dressing table (from £965) and compact side table (from £310).

White panelling
‘We are all aware of the panelling trend that has been happening for some months now,’ says a Swoon spokesperson (Google searches for wall panelling are up 200%), ‘but this summer, the popular wall embellishing method is getting a sun-drenched makeover.
‘Reminiscent of the stunning islands of Greece, we expect to see monochrome white displays of sophistication return,’ they continue. ‘White panelling, white walls, and even white wall art – it is all about the texture. Opt for a refined row of panels behind your bed, creating a subtly superior feature wall.’

Irregular-shaped mirrors
Since mirrors make for an easy style update, making your rooms seem lighter and more spacious, it’s no surprise that Google searches for mirrors are up 300%. A spokesperson for Swoon predicts that, this summer, ‘curved, puddle-style mirrors are set to be all the rage.
‘These asymmetrical, irregular shaped mirrors are reminiscent of free-flowing water – hence the puddle nickname – and bring a calming, relaxed vibe to any space.’
