According to new research from the HomeOwners Alliance, two-thirds of us make a decision on buying a new home influenced by a property’s ‘kerb appeal’ – that is, how pretty it looks before we’ve even set foot inside the front door.
If you’re trying to sell your home without much luck, could it be your home’s outward appearance that’s putting off potential buyers? The HomeOwners Alliance has teamed up with the Federation of Master Builders for some simple tips that can boost your home’s kerb appeal. All costing under £250 according to the experts, these ideas won’t break the bank, or if you’re up for putting some elbow grease into it, even cheaper if you DIY.
1. Tidy the front garden

Trimming up hedges and pulling weeds is beyond the reach of most homeowners, but it’s estimated that maintining an overgrown front garden would cost around £150 for a day’s work.
2. Maintain fences and panels

Re-painting a fence is an easy weekend DIY job, but you could have a professional in to spruce up your fences from £90 per panel.
3. Redecorate your front door

For a professional’s touch when re-painting a front door, expect to pay around £200 including paint and labour.
4. Hide wheelie bins

Adding an exterior light by your front door is a good security measure that will attract buyers. It should be completed by a qualified electrician and will cost from £250 all-in.
