Clean regularly – vinegar and citrus can keep spiders away

Keeping a tidy home can help prevent and get rid of spiders. Dusting and vacuuming often, as well as tidying away any piles of clothes and decluttering, will help uncover any lurking critters.

Wondering if there’s a cleaning product best suited to getting rid of spiders? Cleaning with citrus cleaner or vinegar can be a particularly helpful deterrent for spiders in your home, thanks to their strong odours.

Close any gaps

Watch out for on any gaps and cracks that may provide easy access to your home, when it comes to spiders.

This could be around doors and windows, which can be filled using a sealant or using weather strips around doors.

Remove cobwebs to get rid of spiders

Let alone signalling that a spider is likely nearby, cobwebs can take away from your home’s overall aesthetic. Make it a habit to dust any cobwebs away as soon as you notice them.

Take notice of areas around windows and exterior doors – which are often preferred spots for spiders to make their webs.

Invest in a spider catcher

If a spider has already found its way into your home, you’re going to want to catch it. Of course, you can utilise the ‘glass and piece of paper’ tactic, but there also handy spider catcher options available.

We like the battery-operated option from Lakeland, which helps gently transport the critter outside without killing them or hurting them – but there are plenty of similar versions available, such as below.

Peppermint scents

Spiders, as well as other insects, hate the smell of peppermint.

Try using a peppermint essential oil in a diffuser or spraying peppermint scented room spray around your home to keep pesky spiders out.

Cats can get rid of spiders

If you’ve been thinking about getting a pet cat, you may like to know that your new furry friend can also help to catch and get rid of spiders in your home.

Pet cats tend to chase anything lurking around the home – great for warding off any unwanted pests.
