If you’ve checked out our rundown of the top interior trends of 2020, you’ll have noticed that there’s a huge trend in decorating right now for exposed plaster walls.
Adding some faded glamour, texture and character to your scheme, this look can be achieved without stripping the walls.
Take a look at 3 ways to those plaster walls of your dreams below…
Layering wall paints
Paint brand Annie Sloan has a brilliant way of achieving the look by layering its Chalk Paint. Head to the Annie Sloan website for a full tutorial to achieve the look.
Using a limewash paint

The paint that kickstarted this trend is a limewash paint, available from Australian brand Bauwerk. This paint is available in the UK too, and Abigail Ahern even has her own range of Bauwerk paint available.
Application of this paint to achieve the effect is a little different from everyday decorating, but Bauwerk has some great instructional videos on its YouTube channel to help you get to grips with this paint.
Plaster-effect wallpaper

While a paster-effect wallpaper may not be as realistic as a paint effect, due to the repeating nature of wallpaper patterns, however it is the easiest way to achieve the look. Opt for a design which has a subtler plaster effect and vary heights when hanging the wallpaper, as this will help the repeats appear less noticeable.
