The 70s-inspired living room in the Anti-Hero video ticks all the boxes for one 2022’s hottest trends. Floral wallpaper? Check. Rattan furniture? Check. Retro wall phone? Check. The welcome return of 70s style promises warm tones, ‘free-spirited optimism’ and a healthy dose of fun.

What can we expect from the return of the 70s interior trend?
‘Following Taylor Swift’s new album, Midnights, we are noticing a revival of the popular 70s interior aesthetic,’ says Matlida. ‘This decor style is relaxed and fun, evocative of the free-spiritedness and optimism of the 70s era.
‘It includes an eclectic mix of textures and patterns, such as dense floral prints, furry shag pile rugs, velvet furnishings, geometric shapes, and soft curved edges. All of which we can expect to see returning to the home.
‘There is also a biophilic element to 70s decor that appeals to a modern-day market,’ she continues. ‘A lean towards natural materials like rattan or cork, handcrafted ceramics, and macramé wall hangings.’

Why are we falling back in love with retro colours and patterns?
‘The colour palette linked with 70s interiors can have a number of positive psychological effects on our moods,’ says Tash.
‘The 70s base colours, earthy browns and terracotta reds, make our homes feel stable and comfortable, whilst the brighter colours and patterns often encourage us to feel happier and optimistic.
‘It therefore comes as no surprise that the colours of the 70s are becoming such a popular choice for a home refresh.’

How can you re-create a 70s inspired living room?
‘As we saw in Taylor’s Anti-Hero music video, a lot of the 70s interior styling focuses on patterned wallpaper and upholstery,’ says Tash. ‘Our eyes are instantly drawn to the floral wallpaper against the classic retro home phone.
‘Retro colour palettes are typically tonal and warming, and this orange wallpaper is a nostalgic nod to the 70s. Far from being overbearing, a detailed floral wallpaper is a great way to add texture and cosiness to a room.
‘This trend is all about boosting our mood, which can be easily achieved through the addition of new colour combinations in our home,’ she continues. ‘The brighter, richer tones, such as Lick’s Yellow 02 and Orange 02, pair perfectly with the 70s neutral base colours.
‘For an extra uplift, I recommend welcoming lots of plants in the home, as the green tones emphasise the earthy-ness of the retro palette and will transform your space with a 70s feel.’
