Kitchen storage hacks

1. Hang your crisps

Made famous by TV personality Stacey Solomon, this food storage hack is all over our Instagram feeds. Crisps often get dumped in a drawer and look mightily untidy, but with this storage hack that problem is solved! Simply hang a rail in one of your cupboards and hang your crisps up so they are easy to see and grab.

2. Get a good sink tidy

Are you guilty of buying five different types of wash cloth and sponges? We definitely are! Thanks to Mrs Hinch, homeowners are now focusing on organising their sink with a nifty sink caddy. They come in all shapes and sizes. The one shown below is two-tiered so you have space to pop sponges and hang cloths.

3. Pan storage hack

The pan cupboard is an eternal source of woe. Big chunky pans with handles sticking out take up so much space, and stacking them just makes it awkward to get the pan you need. Try storing your pans on their side instead. The Ikea Variera pot lid organiser works well for this because it’s adjustable, so you can make the gaps between the prongs are wide enough to store pans, not just their lids. As for lids, there are quite a few products on the market that utilise the inside of your cupboard door like these ones from Joseph Joseph.

4. Glass storage jars

It may seem simple, but storing dry goods like pasta in clear glass storage jars really does make your kitchen an easier space to navigate. Not only can you take your jars along to a zero waste store to refill, drastically cutting down on single-use plastic, it’s easier to see where everything is, especially if you keep your jars out on open shelving – an increasingly trendy, artisanal look for kitchens. Invest in a label maker if you prefer opaque jars.

5. Cleaning cupboard hack

Be inspired by perfectly organised cleaning cupboards. Whether you store your products under your sink or in a cupboard, make sure to pick up some baskets (ideally sustainable ones, made from bamboo, recycled plastic or those woven from eco-friendly materials) and separate your products by function or the rooms they’re intended for. Hanging cleaning cloths from hooks attached to the inside of your cupboard door makes it even easier to grab ‘n go.
